The Marquez Family

Marcelino Marquez has served 27 years on active duty and in the Reserves, and spent more than five years assigned to Mortuary Affairs. Mortuary Affairs is tasked with the search, recovery, identification, preparation, and burial of American and American-allied personnel killed in action. Studies have shown that Mortuary Affairs personnel have some of the highest rates of post-traumatic stress disorder. Marcelino continues to struggle every day with the experiences he encountered while serving in Mortuary Affairs. Marcelino now lives and works outside of Atlanta, Georgia, with his wife Frances and three children—11-year-old twins Jacob and Isabella, and nine-year-old Maya—along with their dog Rex, and Perry the parakeet.
