Napoleon is historically one of the greatest leaders. Known for his small stature, but also known for his unbelievable leadership. It seems Hollywood is in the biopic phase with many notable individuals receiving their own biopic and Napoleon is next. Napoleon was a French military commander who rose to prominence during the French Revolution. He became one of the youngest generals in French history at age 24. He took control of the government following the French Revolution and crowned himself Emperor.
What is Napoleon (2023) About?
The biopic will give a look into the military commander’s life, his ruthless climb to power, through the relationship with his wife, Josephine. The film will star Academy Award-winning actor Joaquin Phoenix. Phoenix has played several notable roles most recently in ‘The Joker’ where he took home an Oscar for Best Actor in 2020. The 48-year-old actor was nominated for an Oscar four times in his career for other impressive performances like Gladiator, Walk The Line, and The Master.
Ridley Scott will direct Napoleon. The critically acclaimed director has directed films like House of Gucci, The Martian, Black Hawk Down, Blade Runner, Alien, and Gladiator to name a few. This isn’t the first time Phoenix and Scott will have worked together. Phoenix played Commodus in Ridley Scott’s 2000 classic film Gladiator, starring Russell Crowe Gladiator received a ton of praise and won numerous Oscars.
When Does Napoleon Release?
Napoleon will release in theaters around the globe on November 22, 2023. This film is one of the most highly anticipated films of the year for cinema. Napoleon will be competing with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer for the top spot for biopic of the year. Oppenheimer was released in July and was just shy of the $1 billion mark. The biopic about J. Robert Oppenheimer brought in $933 million worldwide and $322 million domestically. A big feat for Napoleon, but Ridley Scott films have a history of doing extremely well at the box office. Ridley Scott is currently 10th all time for highest grossing film directors.
