U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Wins Miss America

There is a new Miss America, Madison Marsh was crowned as 2024’s Miss America. Marsh, 22, is a U.S. Air Force officer and master’s student at the Harvard Kennedy School’s public policy program. She was crowned as 2024 Miss America this past Sunday in Orlando, Florida. She had previously represented Colorado.

“You can achieve anything. The sky is not the limit and the only person that’s stopping you is you,” Marsh said in an interview that was shared via Miss America’s Instagram story.

Marsh added that if she could step into the pageant world being from “a small town,” then so could anyone. She is a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force and is the first active-duty Air Force officer to receive the title. She succeeds Grace Stanke of Wisconsin who was crowned Miss America in 2023. Stanke was present during the pageant to crown Marsh.

U.S. Air Force Congratulated Marsh

The U.S. Air Force shared a congratulatory post on X (formerly known as Twitter).

There were 51 contestants in total at the Miss America pageant. All U.S. states and the District of Columbia were represented. Preliminary judges voted for 10 contestants to enter the pageant, while the public was able to vote for one contestant. So, there were 11 semi-finalists at the pageant in Orlando.

During the pageant, the contestants had to speak about their goals and dreams for the future. Marsh spoke about her mother’s journey with pancreatic cancer when she talked about the topic of drugs in America. In the talent show round, Marsh spoke about receiving her pilot’s license at the age of 16.

When asked about what motivated her to participate in the pageant, Marsh said, “It’s an awesome experience to bring both sides of the favorite parts of my life together and hopefully make a difference for others to be able to realize that you don’t have to limit yourself.”
